Psalm 2, pt 2

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

This is one of that kind statements found often in the Bible in which the writer speaks of God as He might react to a situation if he were a man. It is called an “anthropomorphism.” We doubt that God has any reaction to any situation that we really understand or could truly define. The point is that the raging of man registers on Him less than the scolding of a squirrel disturbs us. It is a thing unworthy of notice except for judgment.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

His Word, when it comes, is this, “I will do what I will do.” For example,

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

The king against whom they conspire and the Law which they disdain are established by the God of Heaven. He who rebels against either has rebelled against God and will be dealt with as such.

7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee

This is one of those places where the Spirit of Prophecy (the Holy Spirit) guided David to include a statement referencing the Lord Jesus Christ. David was surely begotten of God just like every believer is, but Jesus is begotten in a special way.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. KJV

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. KJV

1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. KJV

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

The authority of David, but most especially that Other Son, is granted from the throne of heaven and all of the irritation that causes humanity is irrelevant, see v.4. Rebellion guarantees dire punishment which cannot
be avoided.

So, humanity, whether under the authority of David in his day or the Lord Jesus Christ in every age, is called upon to be wise. (Raging against Him and His authority is futile and extraordinarily foolish.)

True wisdom is manifested in submission to the King out of Love and Respect for Him.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. KJV

The best advice anyone ever received.
